Florida State football offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has reportedly interviewed for the vacant Arkansas head coaching role.
Reports from KNWA Fox 24 say that Malzahn has interviewed for the role with the Razorbacks, the school where Malzahn's collegiate coaching career began as the program's offensive coordinator in 2006.
He helped the team reach the SEC title game and had a top-five rushing offense in the nation. He was a wide receiver for the Razorbacks from 1984-1985 before transferring to Henderson State.
Malzahn has deep ties to the state, spending 14 seasons as a high school head coach and winning three state titles. His first head coaching role in college came at Arkansas State in 2012.
The current Seminoles offensive coordinator, Malzahn, came to Tallahassee after four seasons in charge of UCF. He has FSU's offense ranked seventh in the country with 487.5 yards per game, and 17th in scoring offense with 36.4 points per game.
Malzahn has hinted at how the transfer portal and NIL have changed modern head coaching roles, which was part of the reason he joined the Seminoles as an offensive coordinator. But a chance to move closer to home and return to a program he is familiar with would be on the cards at Arkansas if he pursues his interest further.
The Seminoles are set to play North Carolina State on Friday, Nov. 21, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. from Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina.
